Office Licensing Changes

Image result for microsoft office

Recently we’ve been coming across a change in Microsoft Office’s licensing on macOS. Users can be prompted that their device-based license show: “Action Required: We’ve detected a one-time purchase license. This license can only be used with Office Apps downloaded directly from office.com”

The resolution for this is a quick sign-in using your NC State credentials. Check out these quick and easy steps:

  1. Open a Microsoft Office App.
  2. You should see a banner at the top of the page that starts with “Action Required…”
  3. In the menu bar at the very top of the screen (if you are in full screen you may need to move your mouse to the top for it to appear), click on the name of the app (i.e. “Word”)
  4. Click “Activate Office”
  5. A popup window will appear, click the blue hyperlink that says “Sign in”
  6. Enter your school email address (myncsuid@ncsu.edu)
  7. Click “Next”
  8. Enter your Unity password.
  9. Click “Sign in”
  10. You will be prompted to perform Duo Authentication. If for some reason Duo is unable to authenticate, please call the OIT Help Desk.
  11. Your Microsoft Office is now activated and ready for use!
