The university is following state guidance and does not require masks, NC State strongly encourages the use of masks, but they are not required.  Please see the current community standards here.  The best and most up-to-date information on the University’s COVID-19 response is always available on the Protect the Pack website.  Facilities are using MERV 13 filters in SAS Hall. A MERV 13 will trap about 75% of air particles that are 0.3-1.0 micron in size. A HEPA filter with a MERV 17 rating will trap 99.97% of air particles that are 0.3-1.0 micron in size. However, increased filter efficiency generally results in increased pressure drop through the filter, which can lead to a reduction in airflow. This is a compromise that facilities made for SAS Hall with its HVAC system.
